HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!
Yesterday was the 4th of July, the biggest birthday celebration this country has.
No matter where you were in Cleveland, you felt the party! The smell of hot dogs on the grill, the laughter of the neighborhood kids, the clinking of a few beer bottles. Most of the neighborhoods came equipped with an epic firework display that you could see all over town, too!
For apartment-goers like me without a back yard, the best place to enjoy the day was out at one of the local beaches, all of which were packed! I spent the day by the water throwing around a football and catching up on some naps!
Amidst the beach trips, cookouts and fireworks – you can’t deny the weight and importance of the day. Independence Day. Not only do we celebrate the birth of a nation, but we celebrate liberty. We celebrate freedom. We celebrate the American Dream.
But what is it?
Is it the white picket fence in the suburbs?
Is it running a business?
Is it the ability to voice your opinions?
I’ll be the first to admit that my American Dream looks a little different than my friends’, family’s, or colleagues’ version. It took me a long time to figure it out, too.
My American Dream is about happiness, opportunity, fulfillment, and making a difference.
I have been fortunate enough to snag a job at a great company that allows me to follow my dreams. We are making a major push this year to increase our community involvement, and truly give back to the Cleveland neighborhoods. I am starting to live my own American Dream, and I’m not looking back any time soon.
