I’m always in a rush to do everything.
I blame part of that on my lack of patience and stellar ability to procrastinate, but also in part to working here at Score.
For years, I’ve been hearing all about working with “a sense of urgency” from Matt and other members of our leadership team. For most people, this would translate as aggressively attacking your tasks at hand, accomplishing them fully and quickly, and moving on to the next to-do item.
I think I’ve taken that lesson a little bit too literally.
I walk fast. Talk fast. Eat fast. Drive fast.
I work fast too!
Really, the truth is that I don’t know how to relax, or how to slow down.
My internal switch is ALWAYS flipped to “ON”. It can be exhausting for me to be this way, and I imagine it’s pretty tiring for the people around me too. Sorry guys!
Having a sense of urgency in any field of work is important, not just in a marketing firm. (That will certainly help if you’re applying for jobs here, though. Make sure you check out our available openings and join our team!)
Maintaining a level of urgency always helps me to accomplish my tasks with purpose, and shows others that my tasks are important to me. When everyone in a company can adopt this philosophy, processes become easier and work is done more efficiently.
At the end of the day, it’s not solely about how quickly you can accomplish a task. It’s about the quality of work that you do, and how much passion you have for it.
Luckily, I have the benefit of both.
